Association Newsletter

The association newsletter was distributed at the general meeting held on the 12th July. For those who were unable to attend, you can collect your copy from the shop.

Gates

Since the new fencing and gate were erected we have had a significant fall in theft and vandalism. However, it is still important to ensure that the main gate and the pedestrian gate (on Liverpool Road) are kept shut and locked at all times. Please be vigilant. If you spot anyone leaving a gate unlocked, either speak to them directly, or report them to the Site Rep or anyone else on the association committee.

Fires on Allotments

Fires on allotments are an easy way to dispose of rubbish on your plot, especially if you are just starting out and faced with a a lot of clearing to do. However, it is important to remember the following:

  1. Always dampen down a fire before you leave. Don't leave it burning. A change in wind direction could easily spread an unmanaged fire.

  2. Be aware of your neighbours. This is especially important on a windy day. While you may not get smoke in your eyes it could be causing a nuisance to your allotment neighbours.

  3. Be aware that we are on a main road. Try to avoid lighting a fire if smoke is likely to drift across Liverpool Road.

  4. Don't burn potentially hazardous items such as carpets (especially those with foam backs), plastics and metal. These should be disposed of safely and recycled where possible.

  5. Lastly, if you've built a bonfire in advance always check for animals such as hedgehogs before lighting.
